Teamstrats is a small website for CS2 teams to share strategies. This page explains which personal data the site stores, why, for how long, and how you can have it deleted.
Who runs Teamstrats
Teamstrats (teamstrats.com) is run by a private individual in the Netherlands, who is responsible for the data described here. A contact e-mail address will be added to this page soon.
What we store
- Your Steam account: your SteamID, your Steam name and the address of your Steam avatar, plus when you first and last signed in. We get these from Steam when you sign in. We never see your Steam password.
- Your teams: which teams you are in, your role (player, IGL or coach), whether you are the owner of the team, your place in the lineup, and the invite codes you created.
- Strats: the strats your team saves, including who made them.
- Favorites: which strats you marked with a star. Only you can see them. They are removed when you leave the team, when the strat is deleted, or when you delete your account.
- Strats you opened: for each strat, the last time you opened it, so we can show a "New" or "Updated" label on strats you haven't seen yet. Only you use this; nobody else can see it. It is removed in the same cases as your favorites.
- Suggestions and bug reports: if you send a message from the "Suggestions & bugs" page, we store the text, the type (suggestion or bug), the time, and your Steam name. Only the person who runs Teamstrats can read it. It is deleted when you delete your account, or earlier if it has been handled.
- Utility library and map notes: short texts (and optionally images) that your IGL or coach saves for your team: reusable grenades such as a smoke lineup, and notes for a map such as how you rotate. Only members of your team can see them. We don't store who wrote them. They are deleted with the item, or with the team.
- Teamstrats utility library: a shared library of standard utility (a text and optionally images) that every team can browse and copy from. It is managed by the person who runs Teamstrats. Your IGL or coach can also suggest one of your team's own utility items. A suggestion is a copy of that item. It is only visible to other teams after the person who runs Teamstrats has approved it, and then it is shown to all teams. We remember which team it came from, but that is never shown. Your IGL or coach can choose to show your team's name next to it ("by ..."); the person who runs Teamstrats can change or remove that name. Please don't put personal details in utility items you suggest. Your IGL or coach can also report a library item that no longer works, with a short reason. We store the reason and which team reported it (never who), only the person who runs Teamstrats can read it, and it is deleted when the report is handled or the team is deleted. An approved item stays in the library when your team is deleted, without the link to your team; the person who runs Teamstrats can remove it on request.
- Images: pictures that your IGL or coach adds to a strat step, a utility item or a map note (for example a grenade lineup). They are stored on our server and only visible to members of your team. We don't store who uploaded them. Please don't upload pictures of people or other personal details.
- Team logo: a small picture that your IGL or coach can add for the team. It is stored on our server and only visible to members of your team. We don't store who uploaded it. It is deleted when it is replaced or removed, or with the team.
- Game results: for games your team plays live: the map, when it was played, and per round the side, the chosen strat, the round type (for example pistol or eco) and whether it was won or lost, plus the note the IGL or coach writes about that round. Not who entered it. While a game is running, the IGL or coach can also show one short message to the team; it is removed when the game ends. The IGL or coach can also type the name of the opponent for a game (optional), which is kept with the game, and write a note about how an opponent plays; that note is kept as long as the team exists or until it is removed. The IGL or coach can also line up strats in a game plan; it stays until they clear it or load another. The IGL or coach can keep notes per map on an opponent and plan a match with a date, map veto and briefing; these stay as long as the team exists or until they are removed, and a team keeps at most 50 planned matches. When you mark a briefing as read, we store that with the time; this is removed with the match or with your account, and the team only sees how many members marked it. Please don't put personal details in notes, briefings, messages or opponent names.
- Sign-in session: two codes in cookies, so you stay signed in: a short-lived pass (15 minutes) that only contains your SteamID and its expiry time, and a random code that renews it. We only store a scrambled (hashed) version of the random code, together with when it expires.
- Server log: for each request: the time, the page or action, the result, and your IP address. No cookies, invite codes or other content.
The person who runs Teamstrats has an overview page with usage totals: how many players and teams there are, how active they are, and how much storage is used, including the team names and the size of each team. That page never shows the contents of strats, notes or images, and it does not show player names.
Your name, avatar and role are visible to the other members of your teams. The IGL and coach of a team also see when you joined and the last four characters of the invite code you used. Strats and game results are only visible to the members of that team.
Why
- To provide the website you signed up for: signing in, teams, strats and live games (performance of a contract).
- To keep the site safe and working: the server log and limits against abuse (legitimate interest).
We do not use your data for advertising, we do not sell it, and there are no tracking or analytics tools.
How long
- Account, teams and strats: until you delete your account (or leave the team / the team deletes the strat).
- Suggestions to the Teamstrats library: until the person who runs Teamstrats removes them (a suggestion that is not accepted is kept, with the reason if one was given, so your team can see that).
- Images, utility items and map notes: as long as the step, strat, item or note they belong to exists. A picture that is uploaded but never saved with a strat is removed after about an hour.
- Game results: the team's last 100 games are kept, as long as the team exists.
- Sign-in session: renewed while you use the site, at most 30 days in a row; shorter if you are away for 7 days or log out.
- Suggestions and bug reports: until they are handled and deleted, or until you delete your account.
- Server log: 14 days.
- Backups: the database is copied once a day and before each update of the site, and each copy is kept for at most 14 days. After you delete your account, your data can therefore remain in a backup for up to 14 days.
Cookies
We use two cookies of our own, __Host-at and __Secure-rt, to keep you signed in. It is needed for the site to work,
so we don't ask for permission. Cloudflare (see below) may set a cookie to recognise automated traffic.
The favorite team you choose with the star on "My teams" (the team under "Playing for") is remembered in your browser's local
storage. The same goes for the date of the newest changelog you have seen, so we can show a dot when there is something new. That stays on your device and is never sent to us.
If you open an invite link, the code is kept in your browser tab until you have joined.
The demo
At /demo anyone can try Teamstrats without signing in. The demo is a separate example team with made-up players. It does not use Steam and has no access to real teams or accounts. It stores no personal data: you get no cookie: your browser tab remembers which made-up player you chose (so that two tabs can be two different players), and you always choose a player first when you open the demo. What you change in the demo is not kept: the demo is reset every hour and when somebody clicks "Reset demo". Please don't type personal details into the demo; everyone who opens it sees the same example team.
Other services
- Steam (Valve): you sign in through Steam. We look up your public Steam name and avatar with your SteamID. Your browser loads your avatar directly from Steam.
- Cloudflare: all traffic to teamstrats.com goes through Cloudflare, which protects the site and provides the secure (HTTPS) connection. Cloudflare processes your IP address for this.
- Support page: the optional Support Teamstrats page only contains a link to a Steam trade offer. We store nothing about who clicks it; if you do, you leave Teamstrats and Steam's own privacy rules apply.
The website itself and its database run on a server in the Netherlands.
Your rights
- Delete your account: sign in, go to My teams and click Delete my account. You leave all your teams; teams where you are the only member are deleted with their strats. Strats you made for other teams stay with those teams, without your name. If you are the owner of a team that has other members, you first transfer ownership to another member (or delete the team).
- Delete a team: the owner of a team can delete it. This removes the team for everyone, with its strats, images, lineup and games.
- Download your data: sign in, go to My teams and click Download my data. You get a file with your own personal data: your profile, your teams and roles, your favorites, when you last opened strats, your lineup roles and your sessions. What belongs to a team (strats, utility, map notes, opponent notes) is not in it.
- You can also ask to correct your data, or object to how it is used. Your name and avatar come from Steam and are updated each time you sign in.
- If you think we handle your data wrongly, you can file a complaint with the Dutch Data Protection Authority (Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens).
